Guild leaders have been meeting with Seattle Times management representatives about the company's request to extend concessions, and we have a proposed package that will be put up for a vote. Information is being e-mailed out to Times members, and we will hold two meetings to discuss this, both at the Vancouver Room of the Denny Building downtown: 6-7 p.m Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 Noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011
Voting will take place on Thursday, Jan. 6, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Monday, Jan. 10, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., also in the Vancouver Room.
The package includes: * 1.5% wage increase (to wage scales and individual rates) effective immediately in January 2011 * 7 days of furlough in 2011 * A second 1.5% wage increase in January 2012 * A maximum of 8 days of furlough in 2012 * 6-month no-layoff guarantee (excluding 6 positions already announced to be cut in home delivery in February 2011) * 6-month guarantee not to reduce the hours of any part-time employee currently working more than 30 hours per week to less than 30 hours per week * No parking-rate increases through 2011 * Contract extension through January 2013 * "Furlough bank" so that those who take extra furlough in 2011 can apply it to their own 2012 balances or donate it to people for whom taking furlough would be a hardship * Continuation of the Unity MOU, which includes our right to regular reports on the company's financial situation and "me-too" language that would entitle us to wages and benefits restored to management and other nonunion employees during the 25-month period.
