Cuts at the Skagit Valley Herald

Two positions are being cut in the Skagit Valley Herald newsroom: one reporter and one photographer. (This is a very small newsroom: Before the cuts, there are 5 reporters and 2 photographers.) Members there have until Monday to decide whether or not to take the company's buyout/severance offer (1 week per year of service and 3 months of COBRA, as negotiated in the concessions agreement).

Guild representatives met with publisher Stedem Wood to ask whether the company would consider alternatives to layoffs or extend the decision deadline, but the company has not changed its positions.
